Big South Conference Tournament Odds and Predictions

The Seton Hall Pirates host the Villanova Wildcats in a terrific Big East bubble matchup. The Pirates are coming off of a drubbing at the hands of UConn but are still listed as one of the “Last Four Byes” by SportsGrid’s bracketology projections. They have five Quad One wins but need a victory over Villanova to feel comfortable about their chances of entering the Big East Tournament. Villanova is one of the “Last Four In” teams, barely hanging on to their spot. The win over Providence on the road this past weekend was massive, but this is a huge week with this road trip followed by a home game against Creighton. A split probably puts Villanova on the right side of the bubble.

Last year’s Final Four Cinderella team is now on the bubble and listed just above the cutline of the “Last Four Byes” teams. The Florida Atlantic Owls would likely be a ten-seed if the field were picked today, but they cannot afford any additional losses before the conference tournament. The Owls are listed as slim 1.5-point favorites and need to make sure to get a win against the Mean Green.

The TCU Horned Frogs enter tonight’s game at West Virginia as a projected nine-seed by SportsGrid’s bracketology experts, and this is a game they would be wise to avoid dropping. The Horned Frogs have good metrics, but West Virginia is only 4-12 in the Big 12, and a loss in Morgantown would drop TCU squarely onto the bubble. TCU is listed as a 5.5-point favorite in tonight’s contest.

3. TCU Horned Frogs (-5.5) at West Virginia Mountaineers

This game falls into the “cannot lose” category for the New Mexico Lobos. They host the Fresno State Bulldogs and are listed as a 17.5-point favorite. New Mexico is one of SportsGrid’s “Last Four Byes” teams, but the past few weeks have not been kind to their resume. They are not outside the top 50 in Strength of Record and BPI and have losses in Quad 3 and 4. They close the regular season with a game at Utah State that could decide their fate, and the Mountain West Tournament will be incredibly important for numerous teams in that league. Tonight is a must-win for the Lobos.

4. Fresno State at New Mexico (-17.5)

The Mississippi State Bulldogs and Texas A&amp;M Aggies need a win tonight as they clash in College Station. Mississippi State could likely lock up a tournament bid with a win at Texas A&amp;M. The Bulldogs are currently projected as a nine-seed in most bracket projections. Texas A&amp;M is in dire need of help. SportsGrid currently lists the Aggies as a “Next Four Out” team, and they need to go on a run to make the Big Dance. Texas A&amp;M has several bad losses but has five Quad One wins. Tonight could be number six. If they win tonight and add one more victory in the SEC Tournament, they would be hard to leave out. The Aggies are 1.5-point favorites.
