There&#8217;s a new layer being added to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish and Army Black Knights rivalry game this year. Neither team can earn an automatic berth into the <a href="https://www.sportsgrid.com/ncaaf/college-football-playoff">College Football Playoff</a>, meaning both must get in the hard way. Shockingly, the Black Knights enter Week 13 with a sterling 9-0 record. While they have yet to pad their resume with notable wins, Army can almost guarantee itself a spot in the 12-team field with a marquee win over the Fighting Irish. Notre Dame has its own playoff aspirations to worry about. The sixth-ranked Fighting Irish have already suffered an unbecoming loss to the Northern Illinois Huskies earlier in the year. Expect a raucous crowd at this neutral site affair, with the result ending much closer than the betting line implies.

Notre Dame&#8217;s offense is predicated on establishing the run. In that regard, they&#8217;ll have difficulty gaining traction against the FBS&#8217; best rush defense. The Fighting Irish turn to their ground game 54.8% of the time. Further, their 216.7 rushing yards per game account for 52.1% of their total offensive production. Army has been up to the challenge of defending the run all season, holding opponents to a minuscule 71.9 rushing yards per game. While they won&#8217;t match that energy against Notre Dame, Army can be relied upon to do what few opponents have been able to this season &#8212; contain the Fighting Irish&#8217;s ground game. Their odds of covering the double-digit spread increase when we consider the Black Knights&#8217; efficiency on the ground. Army accumulates more yards via the run than any other program, averaging 329.9 yards per game. That allows the Black Knights to dictate tempo and control the clock, strategies the Fighting Irish will need to employ to keep Army off the field. We&#8217;re anticipating calculated efforts from both teams on Saturday night, making it more challenging for Notre Dame to pull away. Consequently, we like the Black Knights&#8217; chances of covering +14.5.

The total has increased slightly off the opening, jumping a point to 45.5. But this is where the line has been met with resistance. If the game script plays out as anticipated, our lean is taking the under in this classic rivalry showdown. Army enters their Week 13 showdown on a pronounced under trend. The Black Knights have fallen below the total in three of their past four. Most prominently, they came up 51 points shy of Week 11&#8217;s total versus the North Texas Mean Green. Those teams combined for 17 points with a total of 68. They failed to eclipse a 37.5-point total the week prior versus the Air Force Falcons. Undoubtedly, Army&#8217;s scoring efficiency has taken a hit recently, an issue that will plague them against a stout Notre Dame defense. The Fighting Irish have been on a less pronounced under streak, but they&#8217;ve still demonstrated a penchant for low-scoring games. While they&#8217;ve only gone under in five of ten games this season, six have featured a total in the 40s. We expect Notre Dame&#8217;s scoring efficiency to take a hit in Week 13, resulting in a low-scoring affair.

Over their past four outings, the sophomore is up to 17.8 rushing attempts per game, translating those additional opportunities to 422 yards and three touchdowns. Further, his rushing efficiency has surged in the latter part of the campaign, with Udoh eclipsing the century mark in four of his previous six contests. With 91 carries to show for those efforts, Udoh is averaging an impressive 7.4 yards per carry. Moreover, six of his nine touchdowns this season have come over the recent six-game sample. With everyone fawning over Daily&#8217;s scoring potential against the Irish, we&#8217;re locked on Udoh as the premier value candidate. We&#8217;re backing the Black Knights running back as a +210 any-time touchdown scorer. However, more reckless bettors may be drawn to the +1200 price as the first touchdown scorer.
